Leather Furniture: How to Buy It, How to Care For It

What do you look for when you are buying leather furniture? Of course, you know you look for the style of furniture, the right size and the right color but there are other factors to look for. And, no matter what kind of leather furniture you are looking for, make sure that you understand how to care for it correctly so that it continues to look good. Buying a quality piece of leather furniture from a high quality furniture store allows you to know that the leather is real, the furniture is well made and that you are getting the best furniture for the price.

The Feel of the Leather

Poorly made leather furniture may have lesser quality leather and will feel dry, scratchy and stiff. You might notice the sensation that you are about to slide off of it at any second or that it might break apart if you sit on it. Good, quality leather furniture is made of supple, flexible leather that is attractive and comfortable to sit on. When you sit on a sofa, it should feel welcoming, not like it is trying to repel you from its surface.

Quality furniture looks like it is going to be comfortable and then actually comes through on that promise.

Caring for Leather Furniture

You can’t just grab any product and spray it on your leather furniture. The furniture scenting sprays can spot and damage the leather’s finish. You can’t just grab a wet cloth and go at a stain. For a small spill you should be able to blot it dry before it stains the leather, but for a larger spill, particularly one that might leave a stain of some kind, you will have to have a real leather specialist take care of it.

Leather is a durable surface, but not impervious to stains and damages. Claws can damage your leather, so if you have pets, you have to determine whether they will be trained to stay off of the furniture or if they will be declawed. If none of these will work for you, you can keep them out of the room totally, or you might not want to purchase leather furniture in the first place.

Tears, snags and outright holes can be repaired by an expert although there are leather repair kits that you can use yourself for very small areas. However, if you do these incorrectly, you might find yourself with a more damaged couch or chair than you had before you tried the repair.

Buying Leather Furniture

The first thing you should look for when buying leather furniture is simple: Start by looking for quality furniture at a quality furniture store like Maibach’s furniture store. You should know that all the furniture you are looking at is higher quality with a better selection and better pieces than you can get at any other furniture store. Leather furniture can mean any number of items, but they should all have the same attention to details no matter what you buy.
