There is a difference between just looking for a bargain and going to the furniture clearance sales in the Cleveland, Ohio area looking for the marriage between excellent value and excellent prices. Why would someone travel a little farther away, you might wonder if they have some furniture in their area? The answer to that question is in the phrase “some furniture.”
For those that have a discerning eye, who actually look to design and construction as well as the price they are willing to pay, a little bit of travel is not that big of a deal. In fact, those people would rather travel a little than settle for second or third best. These are the people who don’t want to just settle for lower quality furniture just to save a few dollars.
If a store that sells furniture as an afterthought has a sale, does that really make a difference in the quality of the furniture? Ten percent off of lower quality furniture doesn’t make it any better after all. And, although you might save a few dollars now, what are you paying to get those savings? You pay in terms of your tastes, your sense of style and replacement value. If you are going to keep a sofa until it is nothing more than a shell of its former self before replacing it, you would like that to be a good number of years. On the other hand, if you keep a couch until it is time to upgrade a room and maybe would like to sell the old one for a few bucks, you still want the thing to be halfway decent looking. That is where quality comes in.
Now, imagine that you live in Lorain. Sure, there are places in Lorain to buy a “chair” if what you mean by that word is something to sit on. But, if you are looking for a piece of furniture to complement the others in your room, to be stylish as well as comfortable, the perfect blending of form and function, then perhaps you need to drive a little further. If you are someone who would reach for the stars, then a simple road trip would not bother you at all, right?
Some furniture stores engage in one of the oldest tricks in the book. They grossly inflate the cost of their furniture and then “mark” it down. You have to have a little knowledge about these things- especially when you are making a bigger purchase. Buying a lamp is not all that big of a deal, people buy lamps on a whim on a regular basis, after all, but what about sofas or entire rooms of furniture? Surely you don’t do those things every day?
Before you walk into any furniture clearance sales, no matter where you are choosing to go, from Akron to Youngstown, make sure that you have an idea of what that sofa should cost you; know the brands and the styles. Know that what you are buying will not only serve its purpose but serve it well and that you are getting good value for your money.
